Opportunities to grow and prosper in the current world resonate with many of our stakeholders – parents, friends, alumnae, pupils and business/community partners.

Many already give back to the School in innovative and meaningful ways, through partnerships, mentorships and regular contact with each other and the School.

For our alumnae, the AbbeyConnect platform is a brilliant way to remain in contact and add huge benefit to the School and themselves.

Our appeal is for our alumnae, friends, parents, pupils and partners to consider assisting us in new and transformative ways.

Mechanisms for Giving

Thank you for considering a regular donation to The Abbey.

Making a regular monthly, quarterly or annual donation to The Abbey provides us with a steady stream of income and allows us to plan for the future. When joined with other regular donations they can quickly add up.

We hope you will consider a regular donation and donate.

Thank you for considering a donation to The Abbey.

Click here to make your donation online now or you can download at the Donation Form and return it to Mrs Marianne Clarke, Director of Engagement and Development, The Abbey School, 17 Kendrick Road, Reading RG1 5DZ.

We realise that not everyone is able to donate in their lifetime. Legacy donations are a meaningful and enduring gift. All bequests, whatever their size, will help transform the lives of future Abbey girls. As these gifts come in multiple forms, we have more extensive information here.

Thank you for considering a donation to The Abbey.

You can make a donation in honour of a person (student, teacher, or friend), a celebration (birthday, graduation, or class year) or in memory of a special person.

If you decide to make a gift in honour of a special person we will send them a card acknowledging the gift but not the amount. If it is a gift in memory of someone, we will send the card to a family member or other designated person.

If it is a gift in memory of a special person in lieu of flowers or collections, we will send a card to the person organising the programme.

To set up a gift in honour of or in memory of a special person or reunion year gifts please contact the External Relations Office at externalrelations@theabbey.co.uk or 0188 963 6903.

There are over 350 companies in the UK that run payroll giving schemes and over 250 of these, match or even double donations their employees make to a charity. Through payroll giving your donation is deducted from your salary before tax. Each £1 you give may only cost you 80p, 60p or even 55p if you are a higher rate taxpayer.

Your employer will then send your donation to their approved Payroll Giving Agency who will pass it on, plus any matched employer giving, to The Abbey. The good news for you is that you enjoy the tax-benefit upfront and donating to charity via a Payroll Giving Scheme, does not have to be reported on a Self-Assessment tax return.

You can check if your employer is one of the participating companies here.

If not listed then please check-up with your HR or Payroll Giving company who will be able to provide you with the necessary details. Please do let us know and we will add your company to our list.

Please do take part in this scheme if it is available as it has advantages to all stakeholders concerned and can substantially add to your donation to the School.

You can also set up a payroll gift at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)

Many companies in the UK help boost employee charitable donations through a matched grant scheme. Some match £1 for £1 while others will even more than double the donations made by their employees. Please check-up if your employer is on our list of participating companies here.

If not listed then please check with your HR or Payroll Giving company who will be able to provide you with the necessary details.

Please do let us know and we will add your company to our list. Please do take part in this scheme if it is available as it has advantages to all stakeholders concerned and can substantially add to your donation to the School.

It may be helpful to know that The Abbey School is a tax-exempt educational charity (No 309115).

The benefits associated with charitable giving for businesses depend on whether you are a sole trader, partnership or a company for gain. The tax reliefs for sole traders and partnerships are through the Gift Aid scheme. Companies claim corporation tax relief on gifts to charity of money, land, buildings, shares, equipment, trading stocks, and even staff. Businesses can advertise with a charity and claim this as legitimate taxable relief

Sponsorship

The School is grateful to the individuals and businesses who choose to support the School by sponsoring an event or donating item/s. If you would like to support The Abbey School with products and/or financially, please contact the External Relations Office at externalrelations@theabbey.co.uk or call 0118 987 2256.

HMRC Corporate Giving Information

HMRC Sponsorship Information

If you are a UK taxpayer, The Abbey could receive an additional £25 for every £100 you give, if you sign a Gift Aid declaration when making your donation.

If you pay income tax at the higher rates, you will need to include all your Gift Aid contributions on your self-assessment tax return, or inform your tax office using HMRC form R40, in order to receive the additional tax reliefs due to you. For example, if you donate £100, the total value of your donation to the charity is £125 and additionally, you can claim back:

  • £25 if you pay tax at 40% – the gift of £100 has therefore cost you £75
  • £31.25 if you pay 45% – the gift of £100 have therefore cost you £68.75

Gift Aid declaration

By agreeing to the Gift Aid declaration you confirm that you have paid an amount of UK income tax, or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that The Abbey and all other charities you donate to will reclaim on your donations in the appropriate tax year (6 April one year to 5 April the following year). It is your responsibility to pay any difference. Council tax and VAT payments do not count.

The Abbey will reclaim 25p on every £1 donation.

You are under no obligation to make further payments and you can cancel this declaration at any time. Please notify The Abbey if you want to cancel your Gift Aid declaration, change your name or home address, or if you no longer pay sufficient UK income tax or capital gains tax.

Payroll giving simplifies this process; the charity receives your gift straight from your salary before tax is deducted. This means that it not only costs you less, but the donation that The Abbey receives includes the tax relief, so we don’t need to claim Gift Aid back.

Gift Aid small donations scheme Charitable giving is further encouraged by HMRC through the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme. Charity “bucket” collections of cash or notes in support of The Abbey are eligible for gift aid rebate, without the usual donor gift aid declaration. The School can raise a further maximum £1,250 in this way on collections up to £5,000 annually. Please look out for The Abbey “buckets” at certain events to deposit your loose change and/or make a voluntary donation and support The Abbey in this way.
