We invite you to join us in our Transforming Lives Campaign to raise awareness of the role of The Abbey in girls’ education in our ever-changing world.

The campaign aims to enable The Abbey to continue to uphold its core values of excellence, inspiration and empowerment by providing opportunities for girls to attend a vibrant, innovative, well-staffed, leading girls School with world-class facilities. Every gift, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Why we need your support

Unlike many schools, The Abbey does not have an endowment fund to draw on to invest in our estate, our resources or our bursary programme. We need to rely on the generosity and support of like-minded people, those who share our commitment to academic excellence, breadth of education and learning and wish to see the School flourish.

We wish to remain at the forefront of innovations in teaching, pioneering innovative use of technology, getting girls into our top UK universities, and preparing our girls for careers yet to be defined.

Why do we need your support with bursaries?

The uniqueness of an Abbey education

Historically, over one-quarter of Abbey girls had access to the School as a direct grant grammar student after WW2. Places were free or relatively inexpensive. When the direct grant system was abolished in 1976, the Abbey became independent.

In 1979 because of its extremely high academic output, the School was offered “Assisted Places” bursaries for STEM pupils. This state-sponsored grant system supporting academic excellence in STEM subjects was withdrawn in 1998.

Access to an Abbey education, regardless of financial means, has always been and remains today, a core value for the School.
