Anyone for Tennis?

It’s tennis season. Some of you may be watching The French Open, or looking forward to Wimbledon at the end of the month; others may be just loving being outside with a racket and a ball, particularly delighted that the rain is no longer stopping play.

At the Junior School, our first fun tournament took place after school this week for the Lower III students on the lovely astro courts at the Senior School.A whole range of abilities, all with their head in the game, though some who have obviously been practising. Each section had a winner, and congratulations go to everyone for joining in the fun, but especially to Csilla, Poppy &Anushka. Upper II students have been improving their skills and trying to outwit their opponents at the lunchtime club, ready for their tournament next week and were all buzzing having practised over half term at home against the wall, in the garden, over portable nets and enjoying challenging their friends. Some are making use of local courts or joining clubs, such as GD Tennis (GDT) who have venues across the Reading area (https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/GDTENNIS) and whose coaches also come into school to take Upper II and Lower III tennis lessons. Cerys in Lower I is certainly one to be reckoned with on the tennis court, having played since she was 5 and practises whenever she can with her dad (and sometimes beats him). She loves all sports, but at the moment tennis is her favourite, playing all year round with GDT and is to be congratulated on her recent LTA Mini Tournament circuit successes, coming away with silver in grade 3 and gold in grade 5. Excitingly, Cerys is ranked as top Berkshire girl born 2013. So, this weekend, who else is going to get outside and have a rally? Anyone for tennis ?Enjoy.
