During the 2022 summer holidays, work will begin on the development of a spectacular new Sixth Form centre.

Building on the existing facilities, this will create a new relaxation, social and informal work space for the Sixth Form. This will retain all that is much loved about our existing centre: a dedicated cafe, comfortable and companionable seating, and room for informal working collaboration. All these functions will be maintained but improved. The new space will have huge windows, views, light, airiness and comfort: it promises to be a delightful place to study and spend time.

Much improved Sixth Form teaching spaces

As part of the project the current seminar and Sixth Form teaching rooms will be overhauled and improved. New glazed walls will let light flood in and create a lively, collegiate atmosphere.

New flexible teaching rooms

A side-extension to the current Sixth Form centre will create additional teaching rooms, which we will be able to configure either as four large rooms or two very large, open and flexible areas for practice, rehearsal, assembly and debate.

Improved dining space

These works will enable us to open up a new dining room in addition to our current facility. This will bring huge benefits to all. The additional room to eat will take a great deal of pressure off lunch service. Just as importantly, it will open up extra time and flexibility during the day for clubs, recitals and other activities. The Sixth Form will continue to have their own dining arrangements and the rest of the school will gain space and time for a real improvement in quality of daily life.

Improved co-curricular arrangements

The addition of new flexible space will also allow us to adapt the way we conduct exams, with knock-on benefits for all students and all activities. The new space will take pressure off shared facilities and open up new performance windows and new scope for co-curricular activity throughout the summer term.

Timescale

Work will begin this summer holiday and the new area will be completed and ready for occupation at the start of the Autumn term 2023.
