Olivia plays golf to a tee at the St Andrews Schoolgirls Championship 2019

6 September 2019

Lower VI student, Olivia, swapped school books for sand traps and proved that golf success is just par for the course.

Whilst most of us relaxed this summer break, Abbey pupil, Olivia, battled gruelling weather conditions and fierce opponents to be crowned the winner of the St Andrews Schoolgirls Championship 2019.

The competition saw 35 talented female golfers from around the world compete in a two-day event. The high winds, paired with the most unforgiving bunkers in the world, made for a difficult tournament at the renowned ‘home of golf’, however Olivia was able to steel her nerves and claim victory.

Olivia soared up the leaderboard and was in first place at the end of the first 18 holes, finishing with 42 points. She was able to maintain her lead throughout the competition and finished 7 points clear with a total of 122 points over 54 holes.

Olivia’s fantastic achievement saw her take home the Stableford prize: the Carol Kaufman Shield, which was presented by Carol Kaufman herself!
