Lower III bring ‘Joy’ to the Royal Berkshire Hospital
Working under the guidance of Artist in Residence Emily Kelly, the LIII mural team created papers from watercolour inks and rock salt. They also printed textures from recycled packaging materials. The students requested that their peers provide them with drawings of the things which bring them joy. Using nature as their overall theme, they then discussed their vision with Emily who was able to unify all their work digitally.
The mural is now successfully installed at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, with additional thanks to Oasis Graphics for assisting with the quality large scale print and installation. It has already been well received by patients, visitors and NHS Staff as outlined by Sukhi Sidhu (Voluntary Services Manager at the RBH):-
“I just wanted to let you know that the year 6 artwork is absolutely beautiful to admire – I spent several minutes just gazing at it and examining the detail of the picture. It really was well worth the wait and it makes such a difference to the corridor of the hospital. Another passer-by also commented on the beauty and detail of the picture. I am really glad you are exhibiting with us.”
Huge congratulations to the whole team involved with this wonderfully uplifting and inspiring project. You can see the mural at the Royal Berkshire Hospital until 24th April outside the main Xray department.
