PAUSE 4 THOUGHT

Pause 4 Thought

‘Individually, we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.’ -Ryunosuke Satoro

We moved on this week to look at the strength of Teamwork which we will be exploring for the next month. In assembly we created a human number generator (6 volunteers from Upper Prep, UI and LIII) who demonstrated much of what goes to make an effective team – communication, leadership, allocating roles, using individual skills (and recruiting new ones where necessary), learning from experience and refining how the team operates.

Teamwork is a vital strength that we need in so many aspects of our lives – at home, at work, at play – and can be learned and developed. We began to think about what characterises teamwork by considering a few sayings, which I share with you here:

‘There is no I in teamwork’

(The team is interdependent & has a common goal. They succeed or fail together)

‘A single arrow is easily broken but not ten in a bundle.’

(The team is stronger together than it is as individuals)

‘No-one can whistle a symphony – it takes an orchestra to play it.’

(One person can have an idea but it takes a team to make it happen. Teams need different people with different skills playing different roles’)

With 14 teams playing this weekend in the Rugby World Cup, we will hopefully see all the above demonstrated – whoever it is we are cheering for!

Have a good weekend.
