Out with the Old, in with the Blue

20 September 2019

The Abbey had a very worthwhile makeover today, as the school swapped it’s traditional colours for pink and blue.

Students and staff were fashionable fundraisers as they donned denim on one half and pink on the other, raising money for charities that support research into genetic disorders and breast cancer.

Jeans for Genes Day raises funds to support children affected by genetic disorders. There are around 6,000 genetic disorders currently known, and it is estimated that one in 25 children is affected by one or more of these disorders. The donation from The Abbey will help the charity to fund specialist nursing care, build multi-sensory centres and send young carers on fun summer camps.

Over 50,000 women and 350 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. With support from The Abbey’s fundraising efforts breast cancer charities are able to fund lifesaving research and also specialist nurses and caring facilities.

We think the girls all looked fabulous, although some staff found their pink tops fit a little snugger after indulging in coffee and cake to raise money for Macmillan! The delicious treats were guilt free however, as all of the money raised will be going to support Macmillan nurses and all of the invaluable work that they do – therefore the calories won’t count, right?
