Senior School News

The Reading Area Finals proved a hugely successful evening for our three Young Enterprise teams this week. Competing against five other companies from local schools, the girls did fantastically well, impressing the judges with their attractive trade stands and their well-rehearsed, professional and engaging presentations.

Meraki, sporting their beanie hats, won The Journey Travelled Award following their extremely confident and honest account of their business journey, including what they had learnt as a team together so far.

Impact wasted no time in seizing opportunities, selling a copy of their cookbook during the evening after the guest speaker, Bradley Winstanley from the Datek group showed great interest and enthusiasm in their product. They received both The Enterprise Award and were named Runners-Up for the Reading Area.

Buzz produced a tray of lovingly grown seedlings from their planted paper to demonstrate that the process really works – as well as affectionately naming each shoot. The team had thought of every last detail, coordinating with their yellow tops and bee-shaped logo hand-crafted badges. Their card designer, Amy Penrose, was even wearing a green jacket embroidered with bees. Not only did Buzz win the Best Pitch Award and Best Business Plan Award for their seeded cards, but they ultimately came out on top after being named Reading Area Showcase Winners. Both Buzz and Impact will now go forward to compete against other area finalists in the Berkshire County Final Competition on Tuesday 1 May.

All of the centre leads and business advisors were extremely proud of our three companies and all deserved their success for their hard work and commitment throughout the process so far. It was a thrilling end to the evening and we all went away ‘buzzing’ with excitement.
