On Saturday 20 January, a group of Abbey girls went to Newbury Showground to compete at the Berkshire Schools Cross Country Championships. The girls had to race against all of the schools in Berkshire with the top 16 athletes in each race qualifying to represent Berkshire in the South East Schools competition in February. There was also a team competition in which the positions of the top 4 athletes from each school were combined. A particular well done must go to the U15 team who came 4th overall!
It was a very wet day which made the course extremely muddy but that didn’t stop the athletes running some great races. The results were very good considering the conditions and the fierce competition. A special well done to the Upper III's who took part in their first Berkshire Schools championships - well done Poppy, Chloe and Izzie!
It was amazing to see such a large number of athletes in all of the races; some of them with very bright futures in running ahead of them! Overall, it was a very successful day and congratulations to all the athletes that took part!
