Our Upper II girls put on a spectacular show this week with their performance of 'Olivia', an innovative twist on the much-loved musical 'Oliver'. This was a play that kept on giving as the audience were introduced to many familiar and much-loved characters from an array of Victorian fiction. Transported back to the 1800s, the audience followed Olivia’s journey from downtrodden orphan to star of the stage, leaving few dry eyes in the room as the production came to its conclusion, and Olivia was re-united with her mother.
All girls fully committed to their characters, taking on their roles with conviction and enthusiasm. The character ’Queenie’ offered some particularly humorous one-liners throughout, such as ‘I’m gonna give my old man a helpin' hand - wiv my rolling pin!’.
This feel-good show offered something for everyone, packed with wit and humour, both in script and toe-tapping songs, keeping the audience enthralled from beginning to end. The hard work involved was evident throughout the performance, making for an experience both the girls and audience won’t forget in a hurry. An excellent performance to bring the Spring Term productions to an end. Fabulous job girls!
