Partnership teacher offers learning opportunities for all

As part of our ongoing Partnership activities with Brakenhale Academy in Bracknell, The Abbey has been delighted to welcome Brakenhale geography teacher Beth Byers to join our Geography Department this term. This is the first time that a teacher has swapped schools, and the experience has been a hugely positive one for both parties.

Beth has been teaching at Brakenhale for 3 years as an unqualified teacher and is currently completing an Assessment Only PGCE to gain full qualified teacher status. As part of her placement, Beth is required to teach in another school and it has been a pleasure to welcome her to The Abbey to complete this final stage.

Beth has been a real asset to the department and school as a whole, and throughout the term there have been numerous opportunities for both parties to learn with and from each other in a way that has had significant benefits for all. For Beth, the swap has allowed her to go beyond her comfort zone and stretch her teaching abilities in order to sufficiently challenge the girls and help them achieve their best, while for The Abbey’s Geography Department, Beth’s approach provided some useful models to adopt and an opportunity to freshen up teaching styles. For both, the swap has offered a new perspective and a chance to grow together.

Beth will soon be a qualified teacher and we wish her every success going forward. Both schools are keen to continue working together and build on the strong links forged between the two departments.
