For our third Annual London Alumnae Drinks in this our 130th anniversary year, we were thrilled to hold the event at the Houses of Parliament on Thursday 15th June. 130 alumnae, along with 25 Abbey staff and pupils, caught up with friends, made new ones, and generally celebrated being part of the Abbey community, over drinks and canapés.
The event was sponsored by the Right Honourable Lord Paul Boateng, who is a Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. Lord Boateng was delighted to see how many Abbey Alumnae at the Drinks had participated in the DofE Award Scheme, and spoke about the personal development that Award holders benefit from. He also talked of two important attributes – passion and strength – that enable their possessors to go far in life, both of which we continually see in our Abbey girls past and present.
It was wonderful to see so many of our Alumnae at the event, with a particular mention to our oldest Alumna who attended – Dilys Matthews (1951), to whom Lord Boateng presented one of our 130th anniversary mugs.
