It's ok to be quiet

The last few days have been marked by our annual acts of remembrance. This time to be still and reflect is as precious as the busiest moment of any school day.

In a busy world where multi-tasking is normal, it’s good to take time to ‘single-task’ too. Doing one thing at a time and giving it your full attention. Paying more attention to our own thoughts and feelings, and the world around us can help to improve our mental wellbeing. This can be applied as much to everyday tasks such as walking to school and seeing how the leaves change colour as it can to major events such as remembrance.

In recent years the school has taken very active steps to create opportunities for space and thinking time. I remain in awe of how Mrs Dick-Cleland and Mrs Cresswell ensure that assemblies in both parts of the school are always meaningful and so often involve some form of thinking time.

The next few weeks will in some senses be in stark contrast as we build up to our Christmas celebrations with countless productions and culminating in our service of Nine Lessons and Carols held intentionally within the Minster of our town, Reading. As we sing out with joy we will also take time to reflect on the need for world peace and toleration.
