Jo Trott Memorial Lecture

Thursday 28 February 2019

6pm in the Lecture Theatre at the Senior School

This year we are honoured that Abbey alumna (1992) and Fellow, Dr Sara Goodacre, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham, will join us as guest speaker at our Jo Trott Memorial Lecture, in honour of the much-loved Biology teacher who sadly passed away in 2015. Jo Trott taught Biology at The Abbey for over 25 years. She was an inspirational teacher whose love of her subject led many of her students to pursue Sciences at University and beyond, providing an enduring legacy in her name.

Her lecture will be entitled 'Spiders in Space - what makes a spider fly and why does it matter? Dispelling myths and dispensing facts.’ It will be a positive look at some of the world's most enigmatic but marvellous creatures (did you know that some of them live in social groups where everyone does their fair share of the jobs? And did you know that others wrap gifts for each other in silk?) Dr Goodacre will look at why we should care about these things - and what we can learn about our interaction with the world around us from our reaction to these kinds of creatures.

Pupils, parents, siblings, alumnae and all members of the Abbey community are invited to join us for the evening. The event is free to attend, and there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Jo Trott Memorial Fund.
