Budding golfer Myka has had an exciting year

17 October 2019

With less than a year of experience under her belt, Upper Prep (Year 2) pupil Myka has already gained golfing success by winning a competition in Nigeria.

Myka went on holiday in Ibiza last year, where she won a mini-golf competition with a bit more skill than the average holiday-goer. This inspired her Grandad to introduce her to the sporting world of golf in January of 2019.

Castle Royle Golf and Country Club is the training site for the Berkshire Boys and the England Junior golf teams. Myka now trains at the Club with her coach, Aston Goulding, who is the Head Junior Performance Coach at the Rob Watts Performance Academy. Myka is also a member of the Berkshire Golf Girls, where she receives mentoring.

Over the summer, Myka had three weeks of coaching that culminated in a competition at the prestigious Ikoy Club 1938 Golf Course in Lagos, Nigeria. Myka performed very well and won the intermediate girls’ category – well done!

She returned from West Africa to participate in two more competitions, this time in Surrey. They were fun competitions held at Horton Park Golf Club and the Sunbury Golf Club, where everybody was a winner. Her next competition is the Texas Scramble at Hennerton Golf Club with the Berkshire Golf Girls. It has the fun twist that participants have to pair up with an adult. Myka will be playing alongside her father; we wish them the best of luck and are sure that they will have lots of fun – what an exciting way to spend time together!
