Lower III’s budding businesswomen had their first taste of commerce this week when they opened trading for their young companies. Each team member made a £1 investment to fund raw materials and decided what their stall was going to sell. On Tuesday lunchtime the teams set up their stalls with enticing posters and dressing and began trading with eager customers, which included several members of staff. Stalls ranged from hair braiding and fruit kebabs to nerf warriors, popcorn and a very successful hot chocolate stand.
After trading ceased the girls totalled up their takings and deducted the amount of their original investment to work out their profits. Some stalls were more successful than others – just like in the real world – and everyone learned a lot about planning products and pricing. The girls will now be planning the next stage of their companies’ development.
