Procedure for Sixth Form

The Abbey Sixth Form is very proud of our exceptional results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma and at A level and of fostering independent learning and time management skills which prepare students for university study and future careers.

Visiting the school

Each Autumn we hold a Sixth Form Open Evening which is a wonderful chance for both external girls and the current Upper V to see what the Sixth Form is really like. The Head gives a talk along with the Director of Sixth Form, and there is a short presentation from current Sixth Formers.
Teaching staff and current students are on hand to discuss their respective subjects and answer questions to enable girls to make an informed decision on which subjects to take at A Level or for the IB. External candidates are also welcome to view the school individually on a guided tour. Please contact the Admissions team via or 0118 987 2256.

There are only a limited number of places available for external applicants for the Abbey Sixth Form each year and there is a selection process based on academic ability. The academic standard at The Abbey is high and you should be expecting to obtain a minimum of 8 GCSEs grade B and above with around 5-6 at A or A* including any subject you want to study for A level or Higher level at IB. If you would like to progress with an application you must complete our on-line registration form and pay the non-refundable fee. Your are advised to register by the end of October to be eligible for a place the following September, although later applications may be considered.

Sixth Form Entrance/ Scholarship Day

In November 2016, we hold a Sixth Form Entrance Day for external applicants. Academic scholarships are available at this point and candidates sit an entrance examination at either Standard or Scholarship level. There will also be an interview. A further Sixth Form Entrance Day will be held in February 2017. (Please note that there are no scholarship opportunities available on this date). Candidates should complete this application form and return it by the deadline of Friday 27 January 2017.

Taster Day

The opportunity for a real insight into life in The Abbey Sixth Form

Those girls offered a place will be invited in for a day when they can attend Lower Sixth lessons in AS or IB subjects, talk to current Sixth Form students in the Common Room and experience a day in our Sixth Form community.

Once you have received an offer of a place at the School, (which will be subject to the achievement of specified GCSE results), you are required to send back the Form of Acceptance along with a deposit (held until the end of your time at the School). You will then be invited to an Induction Day for all new Sixth Form students which takes place after GCSEs.
