Sixth Form entry

The Abbey offers Sixth Form students a personalised and highly specialised level of teaching, academic and pastoral support as students develop their individual talents and understanding. We foster independent learning and time management skills to prepare students for the future, the success of which is shown through exceptional International Baccalaureate Diploma and A level results.

The next two years are a pivotal time when you will make your own decisions about your future, and we understand how important it is for you to find the right path. Our friendly Admissions department and Sixth Form Staff are on hand to help guide you through the process.

How to apply

The first step is to come and see the School for yourself. We hold an annual Sixth Form Open Evening and prospective students are welcome to all other Open Events. Find out more on our 'Visit us page' or contact the Admissions Team.

There is a limited number of places available for external applicants for Sixth Form each year and the selection process is based on academic ability. The academic standard at The Abbey is high and you should be expecting to achieve a minimum of 8 GCSEs A*-B grade, including at least A grades in any subject you wish to study at A level or Higher level IB.

To be considered for Sixth Form entry, please complete our online registration form. You are advised to register by the end of October to be eligible for a place the following September, although later applications may be considered. Please note, a non-refundable Registration Fee of £100 is payable.

Candidates attend the Sixth Form Entrance Day in November and sit an entrance examination, at either Standard or Scholarship level and attend an interview. There is an additional Entrance Day in February however there are no opportunities for Scholarships on this date.

Information about Scholarships can be found on our Scholarships and Bursaries page.

Students offered a place will be invited in for a taster day with the chance to attend Lower Sixth lessons in AS or IB subjects, talk to current Sixth Form students in the Common Room and experience a day in our Sixth Form community.

Once you have received an offer of a place at the School, (which will be subject to the achievement of specified GCSE results), you will need to send back the acceptance form along with a non-refundable deposit of £1000 (£500 of this is kept for the duration of your time at The Abbey, and £500 is deducted from the first term's fee invoice). You will then be invited to an Induction Day for all new Sixth Form students which takes place after GCSEs.
